I know I’ve said the exact same words before to Bookaholic, but I’m saying them here again. lol.
I never thought that someday kuwait was going to change.
I am very proud of the number of people who are getting interested in books and reading. We, the new generation, should work on changing the culture here. As Bookaholic said, “we are the new generation and need to make a difference”. The change should start from going to malls and staring at girls’ butts, eating in Kuwait’s countless restaurants, going to the cinema, to cafes to talk about the latest gossip to reading books, joining bookclubs, and changing all that.

there is hope in Kuwait. Kuwait is Full of intellectual people and avid readers. But, many tend to hide to avoid being called nerds or laughed at by the shallow-minded people. Anyways, where is this club? How can I become a member? Who are the members? Where and when do you meet? What are you reading right now? Many many more questions…….

I guess you’re right about the fact that many intellectuals in Kuwait are kind of ashamed of telling others about their interests (including myself). But you know, as many as there are intellectual people in this country, there’re also so many superficial materialistic ones who keep on discouraging anyone simply carrying a book.
Anyway, the founder of this bookclub is Bookaholic. It’s an online bookclub. We don’t really meet in places. All the discussions take place here on this website until a forum is established. We’re still reading the book she chose recently, though: Orhan Pamuk’s The New Life. So, we’ll hopefully be discussing it soon. You’ll find everything you need to know by clicking on “Home” at the top of the page.
I was so happy when I found this blog, but then I realized that you haven’t updated since August. Are there any plans to start reading a new book?
